the other / another / the others

    Hello there!

I'm trying to prove a point of how numbers in the same sentence can alter the answers when it comes to other vs another. Are the underlined answers correct?

My mom speaks two languages. One is English and ......... one is French.
    (a) others
    (b) the other
    (c) another
    (d) the others

My mom speaks three languages. One is English and ......... two are French and Italian.
    (a) others
    (b) the other
    (c) another
    (d) the others

If she speaks only two languages then one is x and the other is y.

    See above.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
