    Thumbs down sandbank or sand-bank?

I sometimes read the word "sandbank" and some other times it's "sand-bank"! Are they both correct?

According to my dictionary the two spellings have slightly different meanings -

sand-bank = a ridge of sand forming a mound, shoal, or hillside.

sandbank = a submerged bank of sand near a shore or in a river; can be exposed at low tide.
