    Past simple or Past progressive?

This is my second post here as I haven't seen my first one for nearly a week. So please take it easy if there are two similar threads started by me @
    My problem is as follows:

    (1) Did you see John yesterday? He wore a very nice suit.
    (2) Did you see John yesterday? He was wearing a very nice suit.

Which is correct? (1) or (2), or both?
I personally think (2) is but I am not sure for that. I would be grateful to all for your useful information.

Hello macthenhan, and welcome to the forum.
I can't find your other post. I sincerely apologize if it was accidentally deleted.

You're absolutely right that #2 is more appropriate in that context. The past progressive denotes the action (wear) was a long one.
