    Question RE: Display Age Question

    Hi folks,

I joined this forum last month and so I am still finding my feet.

Due to a recent comment (in one of my threads) that members may assume I am of a school age (as opposed to being a mature student), I have tried to set (within 'settings') the option to 'display age' (I do not wish for my date of birth to be visible). However, as far as I can see, my age is still not showing. I assumed it would be displayed alongside my avatar which appears beside my threads/posts. I have also checked on the 'about me' page, but again, I don't seem to be able to see it?

Many thanks in advance for any kind assistance offered here.

    Best,

    Paul

    Re: Display Age Question

The age requirement is a legal one- under the US COPPA law, people under the age of 14 cannot join forums. We have to ask this question. Once asked, it hides in the background. I wouldn't worry about it- most people should be able to get an idea from the term mature student.

    Re: Display Age Question

Tdol - Thanks for the explanation. I had never actually thought about 'age' until a member mentioned it over the weekend. Anyway, hopefully it's all clear and out in the open now!

    Re: Display Age Question

I've just seen your signature line. You need to change it to "Mature student of GCSE Level English". The word order is currently wrong and there is no need for quotes round GCSE. I would actually remove "of" and change it to a dash but that's just personal preference. You can also remove the word "Level". In the UK, we just call it "GCSE English".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
