The black-and- white photograph captured men

I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct. I am not sure if my second sentence sounds natural. I meant to say that David looked at his father in the photo which was taken 30 years ago.

The black-and-white photograph captured men in snowball fight. David looked at his smiling father, 30 years younger, and couldn't believe how handsome and slim he was.

I'd use "having a snowball fight", not "in a ...".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

You should use "the men" if you want to talk about David and his father and not just men in general.
