Question deterministic annealing to overcome the excessive computational requirements

    Hi,

Below is excerpted from a neural network technical document:

Finally, Chapter 10 describes deterministic annealing to overcome the excessive
computational requirements of simulated annealing; the only problem with
deterministic annealing is that it could get trapped in a local minimum.
    What does "deterministic annealing" mean?
Is it possible to understand the meaning of "deterministic annealing" without looking into the chapter 10?

Here is the definition of "anneal" from Oxford dictionary:
to heat metal or glass and allow it to cool slowly, in order to make it stronger or softer
I think the meaning of annealing in the above sentence is not related to any metal or glass, it may relate to the thought.

    Thanks.

Re: deterministic annealing to overcome the excessive computational requirements

Technologists often borrow terms from other technologies. In this case, someone thought that a process used in neural network algorithms was somehow analogous to the annealing process materials may undergo when being cooled from a molten to a solid state under controlled conditions. You will not be able to understand deterministic annealing without first learning what "annealing" means in this context.
    I am not a teacher.

Deterministic annealing is a technical term. Why don't you try googling it?
