Question The meaning of "bear on" in this paragraph.

    Dear Mrs/Mr.

We are trying to translate the following paragraph and can't agree on the meaning of "bear on". It can be used as positive (apply/relate) or negative (affect).

"We also provide those charged with governance with a statement that we have complies with relevant ethical requirements regarding independence, and to communicate with them all relationships and other matters that may reasonably be thought to bear on our independence, and where applicable, related safeguards.
    "

What exactly do they mean with "bear on"?

    Regards
    Janin

    Welcome to the forum.

First, please edit your post and add the missing spaces between words which happened when you copied and pasted your text.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

Thank you for welcoming me. By using Internet Explorer, the edit-button won't work, so I tried Chrome today and it works.
