    The past simple vs the past perfect

    Hi. I'm going to give you an example so that you can see my problem.

    I didn't meet him because I didn't know that he
    was in Switzerland or I didn't meet him because I hadn't known that he was in Switzerland.

    I would choose the first opinion as my lack of knowledge occurred at the same time, but I'm not sure.
