    I teased her

    - You know, said Kristy Thomas, I have never been hit in the face with a pie.
    - Imagine that I teased her. Sweet thirteen and never been hit. What a tragedy.

    My friends and I laughed. I cannot understand correctly what I teased her is. Are they made fun of her?

    Thank you.

    What does chaff mean? I only know it as a noun meaning "the part of the grain that you discard".

    Re: I teased her

    hhtt21 probably found something like this:

    chaff2v.
    1. to tease;
      ridicule slightly;
      kid:

      The schoolkids liked to chaff him about his ears.

      just chaffing around.
    (Random House Learners' Dictionary of American English)

    It's not used much these days. [link]

    Re: I teased her

    I'm surprised to see that listed as an American word. I assumed it was a British English usage I wasn't familiar with.
