    amazing, brilliant, wonderful, great

"There were many miles from it, but they could see it clearly. It was an amazing sight."

I do not remember the name but it is from a simple story book intended to teach English.

The sight is very nice for the people in the story they very like it. So can amazing here mean great, wonderful or brilliant. Brilliant is given as a synonym of amazing in Collins.

    Thank you.

Yes, any one of those could be used, as could several others.

'Brilliant' doesn't work well in AmE, since we don't use it as a synonym for 'very good' as does BrE.

You'll note the appropriate entry (definition #2) from that same dictionary lists that use of the adjective as "chiefly British".
