Online social networking sites are a way of forming community

    Are these sentences correct?

Online social networking sites are a way of forming community, but a community that exists online rather than exist in physical space.

    Thanks.

Don't repeat 'exist' or use 'existing'.
“Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.”

You meant like "than" in comparative form we are not allowed to repeat the verb after "rather than".

Is the following is wrong too?

    He writes at a table
rather than writing at a desk.

It's not wrong grammatically, just poor writing.
