I'm happy that school has everything you need to learn and play.

1)I'm happy that school has everything you need to learn and play.
2)I have this toy to play with.

In sentence (1), why does it omit "with" after play if compared with sentence (2)?

or in (1), "play" means "play the drums, play the piano, etc", but not "play with toys, blocks..."?

I don't like the first sentence. I would be happier with something like this:

    1) I'm happy that the school has everything you need to learn and play.

I don't think you need with if the people are learning to play. If they know how to play, then I think it needs rewording.

    Thank you.

As per your explanation, I would infer that "learn and play" is more of one activity than two.
But normally, we seprate it as two activities, of which "learn" is "learning something" and "play" is "playing with something like toys".

Most children know how to play without being taught, I believe. However, if they are being taught this, then I would leave with out.
