    Knowing

Mary left in hurry, knowing that she was already late for the meeting.
Why is "knowing"? Why can I use participle here? Does it mean Mary know?
If I make any mistakes in English, please let me know!

This is how we use the present participle. It's a short way of saying 'because she knew'.
