    Hi there or hey there?

    Dear teachers,

When I was watching an English film I heard something like 'Hi/Hey there'. Could you please tell me which is correct, 'hi' or 'hey'?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you in advance.

    Jiang

'Hi' and 'Hey' are different words with different prononciations. Both 'Hi' and 'Hey' are correct in this case. You say 'hey you' and not 'hi you'.

Hope I am not wrong.Check with the teachers anyway, for a clear explanation.

Hi and Hey are regularly used as alternatives to Hello. Hey is also used in different ways, to attract someone's attention ("Hey, you over there!) or more strongly when something is happening that you do not like ("Hey! That mas is stealing my car!").

Too many to try and list them all! How many are there in your language? Every region of the Uk has its own variety - and I bet the USA does also.

Here,I want to know whether is 'alright' a word in standard English.I heard that it shouldn't be spelt that way;in fact it should be spelt as "all right".
