Before my injury, I had scored many goals vs Before my injury, I scored many goals

Hi. Which tense will be more appropriate in this example?
    - Before my injury, I had scored many goals or Before my injury, I scored many goals.
    Thanks

They both work. The use of the past perfect often relies on the wider context. You'd normally use the simple past unless you had some specific reason for using the past perfect.

I would use the simple past if the sequence of events is clear.
I am not a teacher or a native speaker.

It's clear enough here. If the person went on to describe the number of goals they score after the injury, the past perfect would work.
