    Persons and people

"Persons in used mainly when talking about the first, second and third persons in linguistics."

I found the above definition online regarding the differences between persons and people.

    1. Do you agree?
    2. What do they mean of "first, second and third persons"?

    Many thanks.

    Re: Persons and people

Shouldn't the second word be "is"?
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: Persons and people

    Pronouns:
First person: I, me, we, us, my, our, etc.
    Second person: You, your, etc.
Third person: He, she, it, him, her; They, them.

You should be able to find this anywhere on the web. Search for "first person" etc.

    Re: Persons and people

'Persons' is mainly used in formal, legal and ceremonial contexts.

'I call upon these persons here present to witness that I, Evan Elpus, take you, Wanda Roff, to be my lawful wedded wife.'

'Persons found urinating in this stairwell will be prosecuted'.

'Maximum occupancy 12 persons' (notice in a lift [AE elevator]).
