    bring up vs raise

Is there any difference between these verbs? Can we say "raise children"?

It costs so much to to bring children up.

It is more difficult to raise a family.

Children are certainly "raised" by their parents.

Families usually "grow". They are not "raised".

'It costs so much to bring up/raise a family/a child/children' are all fine by me.

Raise a family works fine for me too. It is more difficult to grow a family does not sound good to my British English ears.

Raise a family is natural in American English, too. Grow a family isn't.
