    get in touch/get in contact

One of my students offered the following:

I couldn't get in touch with you all week! Where have you been?

as part of an upper intermediate/advanced placement course, This was rejected, the correct answer offered being:

I couldn't get in contact with you all week! Where have you been?

Any one any thoughts on why the first may not be correct and how one could explain the reason why?

    Many thanks in anticipation

Re: get in touch/get in contact

There's nothing wrong with the first. I can only assume that the test was written by a non-native speaker who was not aware of the perfectly correct use of "in touch".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

That was my thought but the reason I questioned myself was the origin is a major and prestigious publisher based in the UK. Guess nothing is perfect.

Many thanks for the confirmation. It is appreciated by my student and myself.
