    Spanned between the hills was

I am not sure if my sentence is grammatically correct or if it sounds natural. Would you please correct the mistakes?

Spanned between the hills was a suspension bridge under which ran a mighty river.

Re: Spanned between the hills was

The bridge spans the river, or it spans the gap between the hills.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
