    Already as a child

I am wondering if my sentence is grammatically correct. Is it correct to use a comma after "child"?

Already as a child, Paul had the makings of an excellent piano player.

The comma is correct but I would change the word order and probably add a word at the start.

Even as a child, Paul already had the makings of an excellent pianist.

    emsr2d2,

To my ears, in your version of my sentence, "already" seems redundant. I may be wrong, but that is how it feels to me. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Would this version be better?

Even as a child, Paul had the makings of an excellent pianist.

    Re: Already as a child

You're absolutely right. In my head, I moved "already" and then, as an afterthought, added "Even" at the start. Despite typing it out in full, I didn't really consider how the finished result sounded.
