Peter invited me home to dinner

I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct. I am not sure if my second sentence is correct.

Peter invited me home to dinner. There was so much food; you would have thought it was Christmas.

    Delete the semicolon.

    "for dinner" also works.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

There was so much food (that) you would have thought it was Christmas.

"You would have thought it was Christmas" is a clause modifying "so much". The "that" is implied in your sentence.
Experience is recognizing a mistake the second time you make it.

Depending on your culture, Christmas doesn't always equate an abundance of food. My family always has a lot of food for Thanksgiving but we go lighter on Christmas. In certain years when we just have our own family for Christmas we would only have ham and a few sides. Christmas to me is more associated with lots of toys rather than food.
