Ryan sat in a waiting room

I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

Ryan sat in a waiting room, wringing his hands. He was eyeing the door at the end of the corridor, awaiting the news about his wife. The surgeons were removing her brain tumour. The operation was her last chance.

Re: Ryan sat in a waiting room

"A waiting room" is possible, but it may suggest that the hospital had several waiting rooms. Consider "the waiting room" instead.
