    that/make

    1. As night draws in, the cabin is shrouded in the sort of perfect darkness impossible in towns or cities.

Is this sentence equal to "As night draws in, the cabin is shrouded in the sort of perfect darkness that is impossible in towns or cities."?

    2. Its popularity helped make Trump his fortune.

I don't understand this sentence structure.Does it mean the popularity helped Trump make a lot of money?

You're right about the meaning, but the sentence should read:
Its popularity helped Trump make Trump his fortune.

    Re: that/make

Its popularity helped make Trump his fortune.
Why does the writer use this sentence structure?

Any different emphasis from "its popularity helped Trump make his fortune."?

The original looks fine to me. I made my fortune selling licorice Popsicles. Selling licorice Popsicles made me my fortune. (It would have been a very small fortune. )

    Re: that/make

I'm fine with the original sentence too: "Its popularity helped make Trump his fortune."

I don't understand this sentence structure.Does it mean the popularity helped Trump make a lot of money?
"Its popularity helped make Trump his fortune."

I don't know what the previous sentence is, but the popularity of "it" helped make him rich.

Perhaps the whole context is "We visited the Taj Mahal Casino yesterday. Its popularity helped make Trump his fortune." In this case, "it" refers to the Taj Mahal Casino.
