Can I use the past perfect "had scored" in my own example?

I am going to make up an example below.

(ex) Mike had scored at least one hundred goals per season over the last seven seasons, but he got only ten by the end of the first half of the current season. Since the second half started, he has scored ten more.

I use the past perfect "had scored" because he had scored so many goals before he started his score in the first half of the current season. That first half has already ended, and the second half is in progress.

Please give me your opinion. Thanks a lot.

Your use of the past perfect is correct.
