As the writer's political consciousness grew

I am wondering if my sentence is grammatically correct.

As the writer's political consciousness grew, this was reflected in his novels that started to have politics as a common thread.

Re: As the writer's political consciousness grew

I'd remove "As" at the start and begin with "The writer's ...", then add "and" before "this was".

If you really want to keep "As", maybe say "As the writer's political consciousness grew, he started to write more novels with politics as their main theme."

Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
