    if I were flying/flew

    Hi,

1- If I were flying to London tonight, I would start packing now.

2- If I flew to London tonight, I would start packing now.

They are my sentences. Does the second one sound OK? I cannot decide if there are interchangeable.

    Thanks.

    Re: if I were flying/flew

The second one doesn't work. After "If I flew to London tonight", you need something talking about the future.

If I flew to London tonight, I'd be there in time for breakfast.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: if I were flying/flew

Thanks for the answer. Could you please take a look at this:

Because the Future Unreal Conditional looks the same as the Present Unreal Conditional most Native speakers prefer Form 2 as this emphasises that the conditional form is in the future rather than the present.

If I were not working tomorrow, I would help you.

    Taken from https://www.ecenglish.com/learnengli...al-conditional

Is it impossible to say, ''If I did not work tomorrow, I would help you.''

    Thanks again

    Yes. That is not possible.

If the linked site makes mistakes in other areas at the same rate as it makes mistakes in capitalization, it is less than useless.
    I am not a teacher.
