    to go

Please have a look at my sentences.
    1. The manager was ill, so I went in his place.
    2. The manager was ill, so I went in there his place.
    3. The manager was ill, so I went in there instead of him.
    4. The manager was ill, so I went in there for him.

    Re: to go

It would help if we knew where you went. If you replaced the manager at a meeting, for example, you can use both:

The manager was ill so I went to the meeting in his place.
The manager was ill so I went to the meeting for him.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

As I understand it, these sentences must be right according to emsr2d2. At least for me, but you never know.

The manager was ill so I went there in his place.
The manager was ill so I went there for him.

They're OK. I often think I use too many commas, but I'd insert a comma after "ill" in both sentences.
