    Phonics

    The sounding of "long oo"
    Eg..moon, room, soon

    The sounding of "short oo"
    E.g.. book, look

    1. How about the word "foot"?
The textbook shows it should sound as "short oo"
which I disagree. Can anyone help me please.

    2. Are there good links or forums particularly for
phonics that I can ask for help?

    Thanks

Why do you disagree with that? Have you heard or read otherwise?

You can hear how a word is pronounced on many of the dictionary websites. Click on the icons to hear the pronunciation. Some have BrE and AmE pronunciations.

    For example:

    http://dictionary.cambridge.org/
    https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/

    Dear Teechar,

I disagree with it because it doesn't sound like "short oo" to me.

    Thanks.

I assure you that "book" and "foot" have the same vowel sound.

    Re: Phonics

Teechar wants an example in which it doesn't sound like "short oo" to you.
Have you tried those links given in post #3? What does it sound like?

Yes, I have tried the links and listened to the sound.
I think I need to listen more so as to find out the difference.

    Thanks.

    Re: Phonics

Try comparing it with "food". Can you hear the difference in length?

    Re: Phonics

Maybe Forvo will help. Click HERE for 7 recordings of the pronunciation of "foot". Then click HERE for multiple recordings of the pronunciation of "food". I will be very surprised if you can't hear the difference, especially if you play them in quick succession. Most of the recordings of "foot" sound as if there are no letters at all between "f" and "t". They almost sound like "f't".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
