1. How about the word "foot"?
The textbook shows it should sound as "short oo"
which I disagree. Can anyone help me please.

There is also the [STRIKE]sounding of[/STRIKE] short "oo" sound, as in book and look.

Yes, I have tried the links and listened to the sound.
I think I need to listen more so as to find out the difference.

Maybe Forvo will help. Click HERE for 7 recordings of the pronunciation of "foot". Then click HERE for multiple recordings of the pronunciation of "food". I will be very surprised if you can't hear the difference, especially if you play them in quick succession. Most of the recordings of "foot" sound as if there are no letters at all between "f" and "t". They almost sound like "f't".

No. Food has the same long vowel as rude. Foot has the same short vowel as put.
