they used to get three month holiday

In 80's and 90's students used to get free time of three months right after taking 10th and 12th board exams. They used to take exams in March and the results used to be declared in June. So what do I need to say "they used to get three month holiday"?

After we spent four pages dealing with the documentary about the actor, I cannot believe that you have omitted the article before the names of decades again!
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

Tufguy, note that the phrases following used to are in the simple past. Don't repeat used to in a narrative.

Following phrases can also be modals: Years ago, we used to go down to the swimming hole. We'd take off our clothes, dive in, and swim for hours.

Sorry, I don't understand. You are saying I need not to repeat "used to". I was not going to do that I wanted to use "would" but I didn't do that I don't know why? "used to are in the simple past." I don't understand this.

Okay, so we can say the students used to have three months off. This is what I wanted to know.

Re: they used to get three month holiday

If you use "used to" in sentence 1 and leave the rest of your piece as it was in post #1, you will have used "used to" three times in two sentences! That's even more repetition than you had in the first place. The changes I made in post #4 resulted in just one use of "used to", in the first sentence. Given that my version said "... students used to get three months off ...", what do you think the answer to your question "Can we say the students used to have three months off?" is?

When you begin a narrative with a phrase containing "used to", you should write any phrases that come after the first one in the simple past or modal tense.

Although my post included those words, you left out the previous words which made it meaningful. I wrote "...the phrases following used to are in the simple past." I probably should have written that these words should be in the simple past.

    The answer should be yes.
