Two different gospels, or just one?

In the below sentence the prepositions "of" belonging to: Does this indicate two different gospels, or just one?

But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter.

    Re: Prepositions

    Welcome to the forum, Mike.

What is the source of your quotation? You have not quoted the complete sentence (there is no main verb).

Note that I have changed your thread title to be more specific to your question.

    Re: Prepositions

Googling reveals that OP has replaced the semicolon with which this verse ends in the King James Bible with a period.

Mike, if you refer to the many more modern translations on the site I linked to, you should find the answer to your question. Although the King James Bible is written in language which is often beautiful, it's not modern English. I've read that the King James translation team intentionally used language that was archaic even to their contemporaries; much of it is completely incomprehensible to untrained modern readers.

Re: Two different gospels, or just one?

I understand; however, other translations change the meaning. In the passage it does have two prepositions "of", meaning belonging to. Other translations have these prepositions "to" and "for" which have a different meaning. The "of" prep in the King James leads me to believe they are not the same gospel. One Peter delivered and one Paul delivered. The anacedent would appear to be "contrariwise " to each. Most folks continue to tell me it's not talking about two different gospels. The prepositions "of", tell me it's two different gospels.

The poetry in the King James version is unsurpassed, as far as I know. Its accuracy has surely been surpassed many times in the four centuries that have passed since it was published. Refer to later translations if you want a better idea of what the original text says.

Gospel is a revelation, I see no problem with there being more than one revelation, but I don't follow religion closely.
