    When Peter returned home

I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct.

When Peter returned home after serving a long prison sentence, his wife Camilla noticed that he no longer was the man he had been before. He was easily irritated and often angry for no apparent reason.

I think your sentences are fine. You could perhaps put a comma after angry, but it isn't essential.

Consider the much shorter "he had changed [a lot]" instead of the underlined part.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
