my ability is to do or doing

    Hi,

My ability is to play /playing the guitar.

Do both - gerund and the infinitive - sound OK?

    Thanks.

What context would you use that sentence in?

The infinitive would require a special context. It would sound a bit strange ordinarily, but I would not call it impossible. What sounds rather odd to my ear is "My ability is ...", so it is hard to tell about "play". I would expect "I can play the guitar" or "My talent is playing ..." or "My desire is to play ....".

That's why the OP was asked to tell us the context in which they would use it.

We generally wait for an answer before making our own guesses.
