    He dedicates his career to promote and develop the art of opera.

    1. Is the above sentence grammatical?

    2. Are there any other simple words to replace "dedicate"?

    I believe you've got the wrong tense there. Do you, perhaps, mean "has dedicated"?
    If so, try:
    He has dedicated his life to promoting and developing the art of opera.
    or
    He has focused his career on promoting and developing the art of opera.

    It often is, but it doesn't have to be.
    Mother Teresa dedicated her life to the service of the poor.
