Em dash (1) -My favourite color

These days I am studying about the different uses of em dash.

Now, I want to know if these two sentences are equal.

I would like to talk about pinkmy favourite color.
I would like to talk about pink, which is my favourite color.

They are equivalent (not "equal"). You should put a space on each side of an em-dash.

    Many authors don't.

I think 'which is' can be omitted, and 'my favourite color' will be an appositive.

OK, like I said, you should continue not to put a space on either side of an em-dash.

However, you most definitely do need to put spaces if you are using a hyphen character for a dash - otherwise you have nothing but an incorrectly hyphenated word.
