    an organizing lens

What does "an organizing lens" mean? Sounds more or less to be a combining method...Well, I have to admit that I have no clue about it.

    --------------------
“He’s trying something radically different,” said Mara Prentiss, a professor of physics at Harvard who is contemplating such an experiment after learning about England’s work. “As an organizing lens, I think he has a fabulous idea. Right or wrong, it’s going to be very much worth the investigation.”

    Re: an organizing lens

I would have to figure it out from the context, as I have never heard of an organizing lens before. My guess (and it's only a guess) is it's somebody who organizes things -- perhaps brings things into focus.
