Her advice to all of us not to fear failure

Her advice to all of us not to fear failure has paved the way for our success.

Is it "fear failure" or "fear of failure"?

'Fear' is a verb in 'fear failure', where 'failure' is the direct object, so 'of' is not needed.

Why do we have the following sentence in Longman Dictionary:

Fear of failure should not stop you trying.

How about paved instead of has paved?

I guess 'has paved' refers to the recent past, and 'our success' is an expectation.
