    'had done' or 'never did'

"Had done", or "nerver did": Which one should be used in the context?

1- "That was a fun flight. I never did/had never done that before. It was my first flight."

If you took this flight a while ago, the past perfect works. If you just got off the plane, neither version works; you need the present perfect.
