A sentence from Confessions by St Augustine

Hi, there, the following is a sentence from Confessions by St Augustine:
Then I applied my mind strenuously to seeing if I there were any firm grounds on which I could convict the Manichees of falsehood. (Everyman's Library Edition, P105)
My question is: How to understand "I" in the underlined part of the sentence? (I doubted this could be a print mistake)
    Thank you.

It can only be a printing error.

Thank you, Rover, I'm in china, and the "Thank" and "Like" buttons don't work due to the government internet censorship. I tried to solve this problem by searching the web but failed, it seems that the problem was caused by the unfriendly relationship between Chinese government and Google. By the way, you used "printing error" instead of "print mistake", of couse "printing error" must be the right one, but I want to learn more, could you tell me the difference between them, or "print mistake" is just an incorrect expression? Thank you again.

"Print mistake" doesn't work. You could use "printing mistake" but "printing error" is the most common phrase.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

If it's an e-text, it could possibly be a scanning error. But an error it is.
