Three main line railway stations were closed because of bomb threats.

    Hello.

"Three main line railway stations were closed because of bomb threats." -

    source https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dic...english/threat (section more examples)

It is difficult to understand and translate to me the sentence above.

If I said "Three main railway stations were closed because of bomb threats." would it be correct and natural? Would it mean the same, too?

The original sentence is perfectly clear. Those stations that were closed were, I think, hubs that serve other stations (probably farther out).

    1. Three mainline railway stations were closed because of bomb threats.

    2. Three main railway stations were closed because of bomb threats.

I still don't know the difference between 1st and 2nd.

Am I right that the first sentence refering to:

The images are pictures of railway lines. Certain railway stations are located on main lines; these stations are main line railway stations.

I'm not sure which sentence you mean by "the second sentence". The two images that loaded are scenes from railway stations but I can't tell from the pictures whether they are main line stations or not.
    I am not a teacher.

They might mean the same thing. In that case you don't need to know the difference. In any case, the important thing to know is that three railway stations were closed because of bomb threats.

    Two things.

I don't usually click on links supplied by posters.

    The word is spelled referring.
