    Working in a little shop

I am wondering if my sentences are grammatically correct. Is it natural to say "an expert on humans"?

Working in a little shop and talking to hundreds of customers every day, gave David a great opportunity to learn about psychology and behaviour. He was not an authority but nevertheless saw himself as an expert on humans.

Lose the comma. Unless he dissects and analyzes samples from his customers, David should consider himself an expert on human behavior.
