    inheriting obesity from parents

    Hello all users!

I would like to ask you how to express the idea that, for instance, a teenage girl is chubby because this tendency to be obese runs in the family.

Could I say that "A teenage girl has inherited obesity from her parents"?

    What do you think?

    Thank you

    Re: inheriting obesity from parents

No, it doesn't work for me. It's grammatical however. Obesity is a combination of both genetics and behavior, but we don't (yet) consider it an inherited disease such as hemophilia.

However, you can say something like 'Obesity runs in her family."

Edit: You could also say something like "She gets her weight from her mother's/father's side of the family' or "from her parents".

Edit#2: Or if it's from only one parent "from her father/mother".

    English isn't inherently logical.
