No, it means that the next time her grades came out they were better. How much better we cannot be sure, but context might be helpful. My guess is that at the least she had passing grades on her next report card.

My sister's grade was pretty low at one point, but she turned it around (raised her grade) just enough so that it didn't fall off the card (so that is was above a D); which enabled her to stay in school.
