    respectful of craft

We were respectful of craft and focused on digging into the characters we were going to play。

What does the sentence underlined mean? Does it mean we have good craft? And why is there a "of" before craft? Thank you!

    Re: respectful of craft

    What's the source?

I understand respectful of craft to mean "conscious of our commitment to the art of acting". I imagine the term comes from a tradition of acting such as the Method.
    I am not a teacher.
