    you from then is dead

Jack and Terry are standing before Phillip's grave. Jack started talking about guilt and sorry.

Terry: How many times have we talked about this?
    Jack: Sorry.
Terry : Don't be sorry. I made a decision to take you. But we have to keep looking forward, not back. Okay? The you from then is dead as well.

What is the meaning of "you from then is dead" ?

Does it mean Jack would be dead as well?

Terry is being figurative, not literal.

It means that the old Jack is gone. He's a different person now. So in a sense, the Jack from back in the old days is dead.

Re: you from then is dead

It looks the same: "The you from then" = the old Jack = the person Jack was before = the way Jack used to be.

The old Jack is dead. The new Jack is alive.

How is your question different? You're asking who the you is. Terry is talking to Jack, right?

    So the you is Jack.
