Good evening Teachers!
Would you please help me with this?. Is the second sentence correct? I was wondering if we could use the simple past in this situation?.Thanks a lot.

1) It was the last time I went to the Sahara desert.
2) This is the last time I have gone to the Sahara desert.

I was sorry but "no" with which of the two questions?
1) Is the second sentence correct?
2) I was wondering if we could use the simple past in this situation?

The second sentence is not correct.
You can use the simple past, as you did in sentence 1, as long as you use it for both verbs.

First, I didn't notice there were two questions. Second, "I was wondering" does not start a question. Third, putting a question mark at the end of a sentence doesn't make it a question. Finally, after you ask your question, stop. (There is less confusion that way.)

Your first sentence is fine. The second one is not.

Is the second sentence correct? No

I was wondering if we could use the simple past in this situation? Not in most contexts, assuming you mean the following:

This is the last time I went to the Sahara desert.

If you were showing photographs of your last trip to the Sahara (picture yourself as a retired explorer), you might be able to say this, but it would be wrong in just about every other context. If you were in any stage of the journey of your final trip to the Sahara or talking about it afterwards without having stopped travelling and doing something like showing photos, it would be wrong.

If you don't see yourself as a retired explorer showing photos or other evidence that could bring the past trip back to the present, then this sentence won't work.

Thank you very much. I got it. But I have one more question.
Could you please tell me the appropriate tense I should use in the situation where I were travelling in the Sahara desert? As using the past simple in this context is wrong.

Do you mean you were or are travelling there?

I'm sorry. I meant that when I am still on the trip, what tense I should use in the following sentence:

This is the last time I went to the Sahara desert. ( the past tense is wrong)

I'm sorry. I meant [STRIKE]that[/STRIKE] when I am still on the trip, what tense should I [STRIKE]should[/STRIKE] use in the following sentence:

This is the last time I went to the Sahara desert.
You would have no need to say such a thing while you were there. It would be obvious.
