    Introducing myself

    Hello
I have been asked to give a short presentation on any subject of my choice as part of an interview. The job is in another dept of the same company so I think they (the interviewers) know already what I do and what my department does. I work as a help desk computer support. I help user with hardware software issue. That is my day job. I also teach evening courses in different dept (same company). As part of my current current day job, I provide technical support for ABC software. The department I am applying for is dealing with all kind of ABC design and support etc. So how can I introduce myself before I start my presentation. I am thinking of the following and I would appreciate if you can help me with that. Thank you.

"Hello my name is XXXX. I work for the help desk. I provide ABC technical support as part of my help desk job. I also teach evening course for the department AAA"

See my changes above. If the interviewers already know what you and your department do, your second and third sentences are pretty much redundant.

    Re: Introducing myself

Thank you so so much emsr2d2 for your help. I really appreciate it. This is my first time I hear this term: "I work on the help desk". It sounds good to me but I usually say: "I work for the help desk" and sometime I say: "I work with the help desk". Anyway I guess both of them are wrong. So I am going to introduce myself like the following:

"Hello everyone, my name is XXXX. I work on the help desk. I provide technical support for SAP software as part of my help desk job. I also teach computer evening courses for the Continuing Education department"

Does that sound good? I can not thank you enough. Thank you.

See my corrections above. The point I made in my first response is still valid - you said they already know what you and your department do so I see no point in telling them what they already know. How about the following?

Good morning/afternoon/evening, everyone. My name is [name]. In addition to my responsibilities on the help desk, I teach evening classes in/for the Continuing Education department.

Note that, in BrE, "evening classes" is more common and natural than "evening courses".

    Re: Introducing myself

Thank you so much once again. I like the second one too. However, I thought telling them about supporting SAP software is good idea since the job I am applying for is about SAP software. I just want to remind them that I am familiar with the software. They know I am from the help desk so I thought no need to say what I am doing as a help desk specialist; however highlighting my knowledge of SAP software is good idea. I also want to tell them about my second job, teaching classes which really can help and by the way about classes vs courses, I totally agree with you. Having said that, which one you think is better to introduce myself. Thanks once again. Appreciate the help very much.

    Re: Introducing myself

Thank you very much for your reply and help. I really appreciate it. The interviewers know what I am doing as a help desk specialist but I want to highlight that I do support SAP software because the job I am applying for is about SAP. That is why I found that telling them about this point would really help (it is just a friendly reminder). They do not know about me teaching evening classes so I want to tell them about that too. I liked your second suggestion. It is great but where to put the SAP part like what you did in the first one. Thank you so much once again.
