    School level vs. Learning level

    Hi there..

Im new in the field of teaching English as a Foreign language. I have difficulty grading learners in the 6th up to 9th grade into beginner, intermediate and/or advanced levels. Is it safe to assume that learners in the 5th and 6th classes are beginners, 7th to 8th are intermediate, and 9th, 10th and above are advanced??

    Thanks in advance.

Re: School level vs. Learning level

The Beginner/Intermdiate and Advanced categories are not defined, so they are only approximate terms. We use them here in the site as rough guidleines rather than concrete categories. Your students should fall more or less into these, but you might, say, find that many in the higher levels don't correspond to your idea of an advanced student, or that many in the lower levels are opertating at more than what you would call intermediate.
