When to use the preposition "to"

I tutor a very basic level Korean student and am having difficulty explaining the various ways "to" is used. Please give me basic English guidelines on all the ways we use this particular preposition.

    Thanks.

Re: When to use the preposition "to"

    I'll start:
Movement/direction- He's gone to the shops
Purpose (with a verb) I stopped to have a coffee
