    gadgets and gizmos

    why is it that most textbooks say gadgets AND gizmos rather than gadgets OR gizmos since they both mean the same?

    We quite often use tautologies in pairs like that and join them with 'and'- if we used 'or', then we would be implying a greater difference in meaning than actually exists.
